Project Description

Located in Rodmell, Lewes, this two storey extension added some extra living space to this charming cottage.

Build It Green SIP panels form the external walls and roof alongside pre-engineered timber I-joists which were used to create the structural floor. To achieve an open glazed corner on the ground floor it was necessary to install cantilevered steel beams to support the first floor walls above. A further steel A-frame beam was introduced between the roof panels with exposed glulam beams completing the structural elements at the pinnacle of the building.

With this extension having a relatively small footprint it was essential that every last inch of habitable space was utilised. This was accomplished by using SIP construction, allowing for the whole room in roof area to become useable and negating the requirement for traditional roof trusses.

The build it green team were excellent. This was our first experience of self build and their guidance and expertise was exemplary. Even the wettest November on record didn't stop the successful assembly of our building. And we mean every word of it! Roger and George Hickey
