Green Information: SIP Building System

A Build It Green home is environmentally friendly for several reasons

Forest Stewardship Council

Timber products, sourced from well managed forests, ensure that more trees are planted than are cut down for processing. The younger trees that are planted as replacements are better adapted for reducing atmospheric CO2 thus further reducing greenhouse gases. In some instances, areas of deciduous trees are planted within conifer forests to encourage a diversity of wildlife.

Build It Green Structural Insulated Panels are made from timber which is sourced from managed plantations and has a chain of custody accreditations for FSC and PEFC certified timber.

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification

Timber is seen as a green building material because trees produce oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from our atmosphere and timber is the only truly renewable building material.

The polyurethane (PUR) core of insulation in the Build It Green Structural Insulated Panels is CFC/HCFC-free with zero Ozone Depletion Potential and has a Low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Minimum Space Heating

The SIP Building System can reduce space heating demands by achieving U-values of 0.14 W/m2K or lower as standard and air permeabilities as low as 1 m3/hour/m2 at 50 Pa.

This means that less non-renewable fossil fuels are consumed when heating the space available.

Minimal Landfill

The Build It Green SIP Building System is factory manufactured meaning there is minimal site wastage and therefore more efficient use of materials on-site. The minimal levels of site wastage means less site waste to landfill which also helps to reduce cost.
